What should I expect from OH?
I have long term health issues that are likely to impact my ability to work to an increasing degree in the coming years.
I have requested an OH referral as I want everything properly documented (my line manager is great but very laid back).

What should I actually expect from an OH appointment? I've realised I don't really understand their exact remit. I feel like I need to go into the meeting with a clear idea of what I want out of it, but tbh I don't really know what they are able to do for me. Or what sort of expertise they have.

Thanks

I recently had an OH referral as like you I have long term health issues and wanted things documenting properly.

I had a phonecall assessment (haven't had to see anyone face to face so far) where I discussed my health issues, how they impact me, what medication I was taking, hospital appointments etc. And they do a write up for your line manager to say what they think. The lady I spoke to was a nurse.

They can also help with reasonable adjustments at work and advise whether that would be suitable etc. They will explain everything in detail and should be able to answer any questions you have. Have a look online if you know who provides OH for your workplace and there should be more info on there.

Good luck x

Thanks. Our OH is in-house. Which doesn't inspire me with confidence tbh...

My OH referral was really helpful after an injury, she was a senior nurse but there was also a doctor who examined me and made suggestions about when I could return to work and if any adjustments needed to be made. They ask what help you may need, how your illness affects you, what you plan to do workwise in the future. Its confidential, they wrote a report which was sent to my manager, with my permission.
