library assistant interview

Had an interview for a library assistant job at a local secondary school yesterday. I've just been informed I didn't get it which I was not surprised about. It was the worst interview I've ever done and I'm still cringing about some of the things I said.
But, just wondering if anyone has ever been to an interview before where all the interviewees were called at the same time (9am in my case) and then interviewed alphabetically? This resulted in me having to sit in the library for 2 1/2 hours before I was seen. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have got the job if I'd been seen first so it's not sour grapes.

Hi verona
Sorry you didn't get the job. Sounds a bit of a bizarre way of organising interviews to me, leaving you stewing! Just to say though, I have a family member who went for several interviews for different teaching jobs and interviews were usually similar, with all candidates sat in a waiting area all day until their turn. That was a long time ago though, so not sure if it's still common practice in the education system to interview like this.

Good luck with the next one, hopefully as you seem to be aware of how you went wrong it will go a bit better

My mil went for an admin job there about 20 years ago and they did the same to her. Perhaps I should use my maiden name in future as it is nearer the beginning of the alphabet! Was just curious about how it sits with equal opportunity issues really.
If I had arrived for an 11.30 interview I wouldn't have had to rush my children to school and been so irritable with them. Oh well. (didn't want the job anyway) To add insult to injury they haven't appointed anyone and are readvertising

Yes, I have been to an interview like that.

Whilst waiting the rest of us got chatting, and found out that one them already worked there but in a position below. She had to go through the interview just like the rest of us. She just made it sound like she had already been offered the job, but for legal reasons they had to call in the rest of us suckers who as it turned out had to waste both money and time getting there and back.

yes I was a little disheartened to discover 4 of the 6 of us had worked in libraries before (not me!)
When I went into the interview room - a tiny office with just enough room for 3 chairs -one of the interviewers apologised for keeping me waiting and said 'oh i could have asked one of the assistants to make you all coffee but that would have been too awkward' We asked for a glass of water while we were waiting and were told there was water in the interview room.
Think it wasn't such a bad thing not to get job
