Script marking for GCSE

Beware the lure of “home working” as a script marker for an examination org. My sister is a qualified English teacher and tells me the actual rate of pay (as opposed to the figures flaunted by the org) works out at around £7 per hour which is not even minimum wage. Moreover, for that one has to be a fully UK qualified English teacher with a good degree and at least 2 years experience. Goodness knows what they charge their clients, but they are certainly not passing much onto the teachers at the chalk face as it were.

I know several people who exam mark. None of them do it for the money. They do it for the CPD.

^ I agree with this.

I am a sahm. I mark A Levels and the pay is OK...better than GCSE. It pays quite a bit towards our "big" holiday each year.

The money's not good. I've done it to provide some spends for holiday.
