Turning down a job offer nicely

Total first world problem!

I had two recent job interviews and have been offered both roles. I've accepted one but is there a 'right' way to turn down the other? Do I make reference to the fact that I've accepted a role elsewhere?

I would thank them for their time but say the role want suited to me and wish them luck in finding a suitable candidate

Thanks for your offer, I'm honoured by it, regrettably I have to inform you that I've since accepted another position.

In a nutshell.

Happens all the time. It makes us hiring managers think at least we weren't alone in thinking you were a good pick. No hard feelings at all. Grin

Thanks. Those are both along the lines of what I was thinking.

The one I'm turning down is part of a huge recruitment exercise for analysts, economists and researchers within a large govt department so they won't have too much trouble finding another candidate as they interviewed A LOT of people.
