What are my rights?

Hi- I have been in my job for several years- my new manager recently asked if I was at the top of my scale- I wasn’t sure... I contacted payroll who advised that I haven’t had an increment for several years (since 2015) this shocked me as my last work performance appraisal in 2016 approved an increment- I haven’t had an appraisal since that time due to management shortages etc....would I be entitled to get this money backdated?...

If you have the approval for the increment in writing with the date from when the increment should be effective, then you stand a strong change of it being applied, and back dated.

If it isn't in writing including the name of the person who approved it (presumably your manager at that time?), then the chances are slim.

Did you not notice when you didn’t get your payrise?! Most people would be on it like a shot if the relevant payrun happened and their pay hadn’t gone up?

If you have confirmation that your salary was being raised, with a effective date, that would be a change to your terms and conditions so, yes you should be able to get it backdated.

To be fair, I didn’t really check as pay slips are on line and difficult to login to....I just noticed the slight government increase...have had four managers during these times .... my 2016 appraisal approved it...haven’t had an appraisal since...thank you for taking time to reply😀

If you're public sector - I'm amazed you haven't had a formal appraisal for 2+ years. It makes you vulnerable to this kind of oversight.

I'd flag your concerns and put time in your (current) manager's calendar to do regular reviews, don't let them off the hook. It's easy to let time slip by, and I know how disruptive it is having constant changes of delivery manager but you're the nett loser if you slip off their radar!
