Working hours and compulsory unpaid breaks

Calling all HR experts! Does anyone know if the 20 minute unpaid break every six hours of work is compulsory in the UK? TIA.

Sort of! there are some exemptions for when work cannot be interrupted - (e.g. once they start a concrete pour on a building site - they can't stop or the concrete will tart setting), emergency services etc. Also, if I remember correctly, employers can negotiate to change it if there is a 'workforce agreement' (ie not with individual workers but with the all those in the relevant workforce. HTH
