Hi
So I am applying for a job as an Assets Clerical Support Officer in my local library.
I have all the relevant experience and meet all the criteria. A desirable criteria is to have experience working in an Assets Management or Property Management Department. I do not have experience in either of these (I don't think?!).
Could someone tell me what this actual dept would look after / what would it entail in a library setting so that I can get a better understanding and see if I can link in any of my past experience to this criteria?
Thanks in advance 😀any advice would be appreciated!

I work in libraries but it’s not a term I’ve come across before. I’m guessing it might involve the physical management of the library’s stock (e.g. the books, CDs, other items). So making sure it’s in good condition, checking on lost stock, doing stock checks, making sure you have enough space on the shelves etc. But that is a guess! Does the role description give a clue? Or phone and ask.

To me, it implies a wider remit than books and media acquisitions. Assets could also cover IT equipment, including licence management, furniture and so on. Property management could be facilities, which might cover cleaning, maintenance, health and safety...

If it's a small branch library, then you might well be expected to deal with a broader range of things than you would in a large central library where it might be covered by specific roles. You might need to know how to order all types of kit and fixtures and fittings and know who to call for a blocked loo or broken window. I don't know, though - I haven't worked in libraries for years.
