I returned to work 7 wks pg with no2 and haven't told my line manager yet - am now 17 wks. I didn't want the fact I was pg to over shadow my return to work and I needed them to give me a good project to make the days fly by!
I work with all men and am really junior (I only just got off the grad scheme when I fell pg with ds - totally planned)
I worried how line manager will react - I'm so determined not to be weak and apologise!! but have no idea what to say.... anyone else been in this position?

Not really, but my supervisor was notoriously unsupportive of working mothers. I was negotiating a long overdue reclassification of my job and she thought she could make my pregnancy count against me.

Anyway....

  1. Make sure you know your rights - do you have an HR person who you could discuss this with or a union?
  2. Don't suspect the worst, people do get clucky and soft on anything baby related.
  3. You have got through the worst tiredness/illness parts of the pregnancy and it hasn't impacted on the job or your abilities - be confident because of this.
  4. Set up a girlfriend/partner/mum to call after the discussion and try to do it sooner rather than later so it is done and not causing you angst.

They're just my ideas - and I am in Australia so there could be other legal issues you need to be aware of in the UK (or wherever you are).

CONGRATULATIONS - now ENJOY your pregnancy!!
