Im really really stuck going round in circles. I have a 2:1 law degree, I’ve worked in my current job (which is very legally based but not a lawyer) for 20 years. I hate it and tbh not very good at it.

I like the intellectual challenge of the job but nothing else.

I dislike most of my colleagues who wouldn’t think twice about murdering their own children if it advanced their career. The objectives of the job are morally questionable and there is no sense the job is worthwhile. I dislike the corporate environment.

But the job is well paid and flexible.

I feel the life is being drained from me and my mental health is suffering. There is no point to what I do.

Ideally I would have loved to be a teacher, A history teacher but clearly that won’t happen. I’ve looked into primary too which I think would be amazing but in all honesty could not afford not to earn for a year.

Is there such a thing as career advisors for career changers? Or has anyone got any ideas where I can start looking at alternative careers?

How about using your legal experience to work in a charity, support groups, health, advocacy. The Guardian have jobs on a Wednesday.

Wiggly, what sort of experience would they be looking for?

I work in a school as support staff and I love it! I love my work environment and thoroughly enjoy being part of the school. I saw a job, thought I could do it and here I am, it’s hectic and fun and very different to any other job I have ever had.

Wiggly I’m in the midlands. I like dealing with people. Helping them navigate the law - my job would be fine but for the working environment (which is the same everywhere in that sector)
