Until six months ago I had the ideal job.Fun hard work and over 53 hours a week.I loved it.Then a much loved colleague was promoted above me but in many ways less experienced.
A new colleague started.and it was obvious from the start they had issues and were not self disciplined regarding work protocol or time keeping.
The new colleague and my promoted one did not click. They clash on EVERY THING!
She picks holes in his work and he in hers....quite right ly so he is our boss. The new person picks holes in the less experienced newly promoted one.
Even worse they have socialized sometimes and the new one knows the promoted one has alcohol issues. We all do.
I have to take charge of the new colleague sometimes and it has been hard.A letter has been issued regarding their performance and a new boss will start in a few weeks.
Do I just wait it out as I have personal issues of tell them straight to grow up as I'm twice their ages.

If you only manage the new colleague occasionally, then dont get involved in disciplinary matters. That isn't your job and you have no right to comment. I expect your 'taking charge' amounts to tasking them and ensuring the work is covered rather than any conduct matters.

Age has nothing to do with this, but I wouldn't get involved, wait for the new boss to deal with it.

That is where my hands have been tied the last few months.Senior to the new colleague who has major issues.I have to pick up the workload.A very draining situation for the rest of us.Like you say the new boss can deal with it in a few weeks.
