Been in the senior staff role for a SME for 8 years and feel trapped!

Find I am yearning for a better work life balance and at times find the role very lonely and isolating due to high stress levels, large workload and complicated regulatory framework to operate in. But on other hand it’s working with a fun and lively client group, have been in this sector most of my working life so enjoy knowing loads of people across UK in similar roles. Also pretty decent pay.

The thought of another 20 years of my working life doing similar and maybe becoming a dinosaur is scaring me but I have zero idea what to do next? Or how to decide or move on?

Confused and feeling unmotivated, stressed but also a bit ridiculous as loads of people would love my job. I guess I feel like 20 years is time for a whole other career but I have no financial cushion at the moment to allow for re-training or study to support learning something new.

Job involves strategic leadership, financial management in £3m business, experience of charity law, managing team of approx 250, delivering a wide range of complex services to members and partners.

Anyone got any pearls of wisdom? Or made a big career change in their late 40’s?

Hi, I made a career change in my 30s. I explored a few different things through some unpaid work and I also got a mentor. I had to make sacrifices for 5 years or so until I got to a good level with it. I know someone who saved for a year off that turned into a career change.
