Verbal job offer - now they need to re-interview for the role

I wonder if anybody could advise me please. I was interviewed for a full time role last week and at the beginning of the interview I was advised that they were also interviewing for a part time role, would I be interested in that if I wasn't successful for full time, I said I would.

They called the following day and advised I was not successful for the full time role but they'd like to offer me the part time role. I accepted and was thrilled about it.

Today they've told me that they've been advised by HR that they have to re-advertise the role as it wasn't advertised. They said I don't need to reapply, they will keep my interview results and answers. They will only advertise the post for 1 week, instead of the standard fortnight and hopefully they won't get any applicants then the job will be mine. However, if they do have applicants and then have to carry out interviews, if somebody scores higher than I did, they will be offered the job. This seems so unfair to me, does anybody have any thoughts on this?

Just as a side note, I already work there and the vacancy was internal, it will be re-advertised internally as well.

It's actually common in my experience and the company has to comply with policies. You are in the best advantageous position having received an offer. Good people are hard to find. Given the short timescale I wouldn't worry but still keep your options open - for your sanity if anything

I don’t know how it all works but I know it’s very very unfair. I also feel sorry for those who will interview knowing someone else has already been offered the job and they have no chance at getting it. I had an interview last week for a teaching position. I did very well but was told by the HT that the job went to the teacher already working in the class. It seemed pointless and I was cross for having to rearrange work and childcare. I hope you get it, but I know how cross and disappointed you must feel. Good luck.

Thank you, I do feel very frustrated and I'm embarrassed that I told everybody I had the job. I've also been asked to keep it to myself and play ignorance when the job is readvertised on the internal board. This will be very hard to do as people will be very curious as to where the job has come from!

Somebody who was interviewed and unsuccessful will definitely apply again and I feel she may well get it as she has the advantage of knowing the questions so could score better than me second time round. With this in mind I'm wondering whether to ask to also be re-interviewed?

They shouldn't use the same questions!!

And if she applies again won't they have her score sheet
