Doctor says it's for 7 days, work says as part time they will only cover 3 days so will have to be in work on friday. Is there a limit on self certification for part time workers?

A 7 day cert is normally for a working week so if you work 3 days a week it would normally cover those 3 days.

Call the Doctor's and speak to the receptionist, but my view would be the Doctor is saying you are unfit for work for seven calender days regardless of how many shifts that does or does not cover, not whatever they think is equivalent to a week's work.

Also DH's company will not let you work if you have a valid certificate, whether that is for legal reasons or just a policy I'm not sure.

Thanks, will be picking up the form today so will ask. Yesterday was the first day absent, work have also said 'stress isn't a real reason to be off' and are being difficult in general, so it's a bit of a nightmare.

If the Doctor has said 7 days, it will be 7 calendar days. If yesterday was the first day on the certificate, it covers you until the end of this coming Saturday, so you don't have to go in on Friday.

But your thread title says self-certification, not certification by a doctor? Which is it? You can also self-certify for up to 7 calendar days, but obviously you take it day by day and see whether you feel well enough to work, and if you don't, and it's been less than 7 calendar days since you started feeling unwell, you don't need a doctor's fit note.

It is self certification, have spoken to a doctor over the phone and have an appointment with the doctor in person in a couple of days time.

It's 7 calendar days regardless of how many of those you work. Therefore you need a fit note to run from the 8th calender day. It doesn't matter what you work, every calender day has to be covered either by self cert or fit note.

Ok so if your first day of absence was yesterday you won’t need a doctors note if you don’t feel well enough by Friday, you can just ring in sick.
