grievance/disciplinary

I've lodged a grievance at work.

in response, they have included a completely unrelated allegation of misconduct against me - it doesn't correlate to any of the times I have raised. I have pointed this out and also denied wrongdoing

I have had no grievance raised against me

is it possible this could still end in disciplinary action against me?

Yes it could if they prove their case.

I am assuming you think the other allegation was raised so you'd drop the grievance?

yes I think so - and to question my character. the allegation has not formed a grievance from them, or a disciplinary. just been used as a way of saying I'm untrustworthy I guess.

If they believed it to be true/or felt like they should act on this, should they not have taken to a separate disciplinary action against me, not include in my unrelated grievance?

ACAS good practice on Grievances states it is there to provide the employee with informal and formal opportunities to raise concerns and tobe listened to. If all they do is retaliate and throw rocks back at the employee that isn't in the spirit of a grievance and tends to dissuade people from being able to voice concerns. Also it obfuscates, and frustrates the process by muddying the waters (often by design!).

Did you try to raise the grievance informally first? That's also good practice because it keeps the matter (potentially) cordial in terms of showing good intent to resolve discretely and direct with the person. Only if the concern persists or is ignored should it be taken down a formal route.

Thank you for your reply

Yes raised informally first. Was not handled well at all (ignored really), so lodged an official greuvance.

Throwing rocks seems a good description. Am worried the outcome of my grievance will factor in this unrelated claim - although is irrelevant (as well as untrue). Can I receive a disciplinary in this way?

So is the allegation against you formal?
