Maternity Pay INCREASED while on maternity? Eligible?

Wondering if anybody else has ever had this happen... whilst on maternity, my company INCREASED their maternity pay policy to pay 3 months at 90% instead of just statutory SMP.

Incredibly frustrating for me, as I was already on maternity when this happened!! So essentially missed out on an entire 3 months of extra pay :(

Do you think I should ask for backpay / would I be eligible to claim it if already on maternity?

Anyone else had any experience of the same?

Hello. It's not happened to me but there will be a cut off date so unlikely you would get the same benefit as you knew the policy before going on mat leave. Always worth asking though!

Were you in the first three months when they did it? If not I doubt you'll get it. Our work did similar and some people did get it if they were already off but not as back pay for time they'd already had, if you see what I mean.

@costacoffeecup no I wasn't in the first 3 months... I was in my 6th month of maternity leave.

I knew it might be a long shot... but I thought it was worth asking the question!

If you weren't in your first three months o wouldn't say you've got any hope. Annoying but just one of those timing things

You can ask the question but they have to start the new policy somewhere, there needs to be a cut off, and it’s unlikely they’ll backdate that.
