paternity leave

I am due to give birth at the end of Jan. My DH has been authorised Paternity leave at work and there is no issue there. My confusion is how do we plan for the birth? If I went into labour while he was at work then can he leave work to come with me? Paternity leave doesn't start until the baby is actually born so what do people do about time in labour. He has some holiday left and he would like to take it over Christmas but I think he should save it or if he takes it can he just take unpaid leave? (I would rather he didn't as we need the money)Can his boss refuse him unpaid leave? I had my last baby over ten years ago and feel like I am doing this all for the first time.

Would his job not be pretty flexible if u went into labour..
If he said I need to leave DW has gone into labour surely they would take that as the start of paternity?
My last baby I was induced Saturday but she want born til Monday night so Monday was the start of paternity..

A lot employers allow paternity to start as soon as you go in to labour. He should ask.

He's just been told that paternity leave starts when baby arrives. I'm assuming then he can either take his holiday or unpaid. I'm just assuming that it will be a three day labour like my first!
( I'm hoping baby comes on a Friday night in an hour)

He doesn't leave work coz u have gone into labour then phone them 3 days later and say baby is born now so my paternity can start.. I would say right baby is coming see u all in two weeks..
