I work PT but also do a bit of freelance work, but am currently on maternity leave. However a really great freelance client from a company I have been wanting to work with for ages offered me some work a few months ago. I did the work as it was fairly straightforward and non taxing on my sleep deprived 'baby brain'. They were happy. Then asked if I could do some more work for them which would be similar so I said yes fine as could do with the money to be frank. However, the brief has come through and it’s a bit more involved than I honestly think I can handle right now. Back before the baby, when I had proper sleep every night I wouldn’t have hesitated but I don’t want to make a pig’s ear of it and cause myself stress and ruin a so-far good relationship with this client. But I sort of said I’d do it already so I’ll have to risk pissing them off if I’ve changed my mind. So how do I reply without potentially losing this client’s business? Would you be honest and cite baby brain/lack of childcare or would that be viewed negatively? I’d really like to work with them again when I’m fully back at work so don’t want to be seen as unreliable. Help!
