Effectively downgraded after merger

I know the answer might have to be suck it up

Two local branches of my employer recently merged into one larger branch.
This means that instead of being the number 2 at original place, I'm now number 4 and don't get to do lots of the more interesting and satisfying bits of my job.

My hours and hourly rate haven't changed but I'm not delighted about it tbf.

Any suggestions?

Not what you want to hear but there's nothing you can do other than put your head down and work towards promotion if someone leaves.

It's irritating because the now number 2 is a newbie who I inducted. They are v good though, very competent.
And I'm better at the job than the number 3. I'm supposed to support them in their role.

I know it's petty. But it's still galling.

Look for a new job?

Poor you, that sounds rubbish. I felt effectively demoted after a colleague returned from mat leave as I'd taken over some of her responsibilities, which then went back to her. If it wasn't my turn to be preggers I'd be looking for a new job as there's nothing worse than feeling lower in the pecking order than you know you are capable of.
