What would you suggest the first steps should be to try to return to work? Any websites or anything you can recommend? This is for someone who has been looking after kids for 10 years. It is a man if that makes any difference. Previous work in public sector mainly. Thanks.

Have you kept in touch with any of your old work colleagues? Can you put the word out that you are looking for a way back?
If public sector, write to the HR teams at all the likely local employers, make sure they know you are willing to take a contract or a maternity cover etc to get back into work.

Do you have a LinkedIn page? Review it, make sure all your experience is there and then set the flag to looking for new challenges.
Good luck

Specific agencies for teachers, nurses etc. SocITM for public sector IT staff. Maybe contact the relevant union and ask for help.
