Ive recently made a dress for a friend. She wanted something she was unable to find elsewhere. Materials come up to £16, shipping of fabric was £6, not sure the cost of using my machine and threads was and it took me about 6 hours in total. It’s a 18-24m dress with a zip, gathered waist and trim. As it’s the first time making one I’ve said £20 will cover it. My stitching isn’t perfect but I’m told I’m my own worst critic.

What would you charge for something like this?

I would say for a friend they cover materials.

If it's a business idea you need to work out all costs, including your time, and make a profit over and above

Yes charge for fabric and delivery costs. I always charge less for friends. £10 on top of the fabric costs I would say for your item.
