IVe seen a job in education which I have applied for they have stated that they will be asking for references off my line manager prior to interview.

It’s stressing me out slightly because I really would like to go for this interview but at the same time I don’t want to rock the boat with my manager. I have been there just shy of 6 months and the past few weeks my manager has been a lot better with me but I really want to find a job in education because it fits in better with my circumstances.

I’m worried if I go to the interview and don’t get the job they will be offish with me and make my work life awkward, but at the same time I don’t not want to go encase I got the job!?

Advice on what to do? && why do some
Schools ask and others don’t?

I work in education (as support staff, not teaching) and it is pretty common unfortunately. For my most recent job (which I got!), I asked politely if they wouldn't contact my current referee until after the interview. I gave two alternative referees for beforehand but didn't want to rock the boat with the place I was working for at the time. I said once I was offered the job I was more than happy for them to contact her to provide a reference before we signed anything. It worked out ok for me - might be worth trying? Good luck! x
