Redundant at 14 weeks

Hi,

I am in a UK charity and am personally based out of South Africa (but British). I was told today that due to a restructure my job is "at risk". The consultation period is 2 weeks and starts on Monday. I have worked for the charity for over 2.5 years and do a very specific, technical role. It appears that there are only a few redundancies.

My employers only found out after this news that I am pregnant.

Any tips/experiences in negotiating a better package than what is being offered? Obviously I was banking on mat leave and working until April, but now I will only be paid until January if the redundancy comes into effect in November.

I am new to Mumsnet so apologies if this is a discussion that appears elsewhere - I have searched and cannot find exactly the right one!

Any ideas or experiences welcome.
Thanks.

What country do you pay tax in?

South Africa...but I have an overriding UK-based contract. I am essentially on secondment for a year in South Africa, on a fixed term contract with a subsidiary.

I have never heard of anyone negotiating their redundancy pay out, companies normally have a policy which will have formulae for the calculations.
