So I’ve held a part time job for the past year since my maternity leave ended.
It was a new business and recruited for 12 people all at once.
When you applied you had to put what days/shifts you would be able to work.
I put mon/tues/wed morning.
For the past year this has been fine. My supervisor just put me on these shifts as this was all I could get childcare for.
In September my boss asked me if these days would remain the same or were going to change. I then said that due to my MIL offering to do 1 mornings childcare for me then tues/wed/thurs would be better.
This was all fine.
Then my supervisor left and a new supervisor started. The supervisors do the rotas and you are meant to go to them before going to a manager re any problems.
My new supervisor (who is single with no kids) constantly wants me to do different days/times and moans I’m not flexible when I say I can’t change.
He doesn’t want to work a Tuesday evening as he has football training at 5, so is nagging me to change my shift to an evening one, he’s got furniture being delivered one Wednesday afternoon and wants me to cover that shift and not work in the morning, he’s got a doctors appointment on a Thursday evening so wants me to swap shifts to then instead and do a 3-8pm instead of my 8-1 for which I have paid childcare for.
Every week he’ll change the rota without telling me and put me down for shifts I can’t do, and then I have to argue with him to get it changed back to my original shift and he makes me feel bad as he moans about missing football practise. He knows I have set shifts but constantly puts me down for whatever shifts he feels like.
What part of “I only have childcare tues wed thurs AM” does he not understand.
He knows that I have family who will step in so I can swap shifts if he keeps nagging me. I told the company when I first started that these were the shifts I could do so surely he should respect that.
I am paying for childcare that isn’t even needed some weeks and as nursery can’t swap days it means that I’m paying for 2 mornings of nursery but then my mum still has to have my LO on a couple of afternoons I shouldn’t be working.
It’s really stressing me out.
