Flexible working rejected. Help?!

Just a quick one as I'm going in to appeal my rejection soon.

Background;
Work delayed my initial meeting
Rejection received two weeks before I start back.
Holiday been used for last 4 weeks (6 weeks will be used)

Request; Wednesdays off unpaid and extended hours Friday until January when will resume full time.
This is because normal finish time 1 to increase to 4.30. Work from home Friday. (a practice done lots in our place)

Reasons for rejection
"The normal office hours on a Friday are 8.00-13.00 after this time there would be no support available from other members of the project team. There would also be limited out of hours IT support available. The workload is based on shorter office hours on Friday and other stakeholders would not be available after 13.00.
We are currently reviewing the projects which may be assigned to you on your return from maternity leave. We are waiting for further information on a couple of the projects. The nature of the projects would be such that the work would need to be carried out from the office."

Any tips on what to go back with? I can't take it as holiday as the rejections so late I've used up all my holiday. So I either lose 2 day's pay a week or have to quickly find child care for my son in the next 13 days (due to go back 15th)

I'm so stressed and confused.

If they have s business reason then refusing the request is fine

Seems like they have?

I think unfortunately for you it sounds like they have a business reason to reject the request.

Also someone else in the office has on a flexible working request decreased Mon-Thurs hours and increased Friday hours. Although she is in the office.
