Can I ask for your most luxurious/not so exciting employee perks?

Most luxe from previous jobs:

On-site brasserie with heavily subsided breakfast/lunch/dinner - 40p for a cappuccino/£2 for a healthy stir fry

Xmas party would be in a European city each year, flights and accommodation covered for you +1, free food and bar

Leaving/baby/wedding collection most Directors would put in around £50 each; so people got around £1k in vouchers

My current role...free milk. That's it. Had to purchase my own laptop and have to use my own mobile phone - have unlimited minutes so that's not an issue but got 2 calls when I was on holiday last week, one I answered thinking it was Vodafone calling me back about an upgrade (it wasn't) the other I just left to voicemail. Ho hum... Saying that they do have a decent maternity leave policy (enhanced pay) shame I'm too old for it now though!

I used to work for a market research company and they quite often had test/show products which the staff could have after the research had been done. All the really nice stuff was raffled once a year-ish and the raffle ticket money went to charity. They also had drinks on Fridays, just beer/wine and snacks from about 4.30 pm, it was a nice wind-down to the weekend.

City wide parking permit

cloudtree · 01/10/2018 13:45

The fancy party would not have been as much of a perk as you thought. You will have been taxed on it as an employee benefit if the cost was over £150.

Villanellesproudmum · 01/10/2018 13:48

I usually receive a huge Christmas cake which I donate and a couple of Fortnum and Mason drinks & drinks hampers from suppliers. Usually my only gifts at Christmas unless I buy my own so I really look forward to them.

Spudlet · 01/10/2018 13:49

Best perk of my old job was being able to take my dog to work, hands down. He had a bed under my desk and we went for walks at lunchtime around the fields (office job at an animal welfare charity).

Free use of swimming pool. In prison. The lifeguard is a serving prisoner. The lifeguard bit didn't bother me at all, but it put some people off.

Free dinner when you're duty manager, it's not optional though, it's part of the duty. A senior manager checks the food every day in prisons.

My staff mortgage rate is the BOE base rate. Saved is a lot of money over the years and allowed us to make overpayments.

Lonecatwithkitten · 01/10/2018 16:27

Any single gift over £50 is now subject to tax, I give certain staff more than that at Christmas and pay the tax, but it is so much hassle.

bakingdemon · 01/10/2018 16:28

An extra day of holiday if you got married or moved house.

Zeitgei5t · 01/10/2018 16:35

Flexitime? That's about it really. Sometimes there are pens in the stationary cupboard so I don't have to buy my own. Hmm

QueenCity · 01/10/2018 16:39

We used to get three Duvet Days a year on top of our already generous holiday entitlement. If you didn't fancy coming into work/had a hangover etc you could just ring and let them know you were taking a Duvet Day,

SpareBedroom · 01/10/2018 16:44

No library fines or reservation fees, and loads of books on tap. (Library assistant).

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 01/10/2018 16:51

NHS So we get an ok (but not even remotely as good as it used to be) pension and a fairly generous maternity package.

We get nothing for free except our uniform, not even tea and coffee.

habibihabibi · 01/10/2018 16:56

Not me but during a tube strike, DH
got a lift home by helicopter whilst I walked 7 miles.

Parky04 · 01/10/2018 17:00

Free bus travel for all the family which saves us £1500. We also get an easter Egg. Christmas party is free and so are the drinks. Pretty good.

KingLooieCatz · 01/10/2018 17:16

DH used to get free travel on London Transport when he was in Met Police. Then they started having to pay tax on that. We've moved away now anyway.

Starwednesday · 01/10/2018 17:20

Free shoes, free Christmas party, free drinks party in September, 2 paid sick days a year, free squash/tea/coffee, and 40% staff discount, not too bad

baxterstockman · 01/10/2018 17:31

Absolutely nothing! We have to pay for tea, coffee and milk. They have taken away our water coolers so we have tepid tap water. If clients buy us a thank you present, even a packet of biscuits, we're not allowed to accept it. Can you tell I work in the public sector?Smile

TheFifthKey · 01/10/2018 17:35

We get free tea, coffee and milk at my work which, in education, still blows my mind every single time! Plus access to the college cafe which isn’t dirt cheap but definitely cheaper than buying food outside when you can’t be bothered to pack a lunch, and they don’t have to have rubbish healthy food like they do in schools! Plus I get to choose what stationery I want. I’m pretty happy with these!

Starwednesday · 01/10/2018 17:37

Oh and £35 a year towards work clothes

Moocoo · 01/10/2018 17:38

Sometimes you get a free cold or vomiting bug off one of the children (school)

IStillMissBlockbuster · 01/10/2018 17:40

That's not true Formerly! I got the flu jab today Grin

Groovee · 01/10/2018 17:43

Erm only perk I have been offered in a school is a free flu jag!

Otherwise I need to declare any presents from the parents. In case of bribery!

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 01/10/2018 17:45

That's not true Formerly! I got the flu jab today grin

Ah yes I forgot about the flu jab.

I also forgot about the free dental treatment I got after a patient knocked my crown out... good times.

Sorry10 · 01/10/2018 17:49

Years ago worked for a high end designer paint company so used to get paint cheap at cost .
Nowadays only perk is free parking and free tea, coffee and bottled water but can't complain.
