Can I ask for your most luxurious/not so exciting employee perks?

MandaraSugar · 01/10/2018 13:34

Most luxe from previous jobs:

On-site brasserie with heavily subsided breakfast/lunch/dinner - 40p for a cappuccino/£2 for a healthy stir fry

Xmas party would be in a European city each year, flights and accommodation covered for you +1, free food and bar

Leaving/baby/wedding collection most Directors would put in around £50 each; so people got around £1k in vouchers

My current role...free milk. That's it. Had to purchase my own laptop and have to use my own mobile phone - have unlimited minutes so that's not an issue but got 2 calls when I was on holiday last week, one I answered thinking it was Vodafone calling me back about an upgrade (it wasn't) the other I just left to voicemail. Ho hum... Saying that they do have a decent maternity leave policy (enhanced pay) shame I'm too old for it now though!

Two weeks off at Christmas on top of the standard 28 days. Mainly because our industry completely slows down at that time of year, but a brill perk Smile

Nacreous · 01/10/2018 21:16

Work iPhone with essentially limitless personal use
Free parking
Free lunch every day
Free work day out every year
Paid for Christmas party
Probably another 6-10 free work events in the evenings a year
Mega cheap critical illness cover
7 extra days on top of minimum statutory holiday

(The non-perk is the huge quantity of unpaid overtime - so severe that they have to monitor professionals pay to continue to claim to be living wage employer.)

Wetdressinggownsleeve · 01/10/2018 21:25

I was asked to check over a job description for a role at my work recently. Once I'd removed the 'rewards' that were actually just the law (20 days hol + bank hols.. gee thanks) we were left with... free on-site parking.

Gettingbackonmyfeet · 01/10/2018 21:41

In this job it's about average for my industry

Work iPhone
Laptop
(Not sure those count on the grounds they basically just mean you are contactable 24/7 but given that my poor managers have crap phones I should be grateful)

An interesting employee shop that HR thinks is excellent but I'll probably never use

Ermm....and sort of flexi time (not really as job demands make it impossoble)

But I actually love my job so it's fine and they pay well above industry standard so to be fair can't fault them

Interestingly one of my worst jobs had the best perks
Flashy company car
Free hotel stays
Money up the wazoo
An expense account with a ridiculously high credit card limit that I was constantly being told off for not spending enough

All I had to pay for it was ya know...my soul and my sanity Grin not worth it but by God the hotel stays and food were fun

FrangipaniBlue · 01/10/2018 21:43

When I had DS I worked for a company who gave the first 6 months maternity leave at full pay - hands down the best benefit I've had. From what I've heard this has now stopped though!

Another company I worked for used to let you have the day off on your birthday Grin

EggysMom · 01/10/2018 21:45

Just now? Subsidised rail season ticket. Whoop. Except that I don't live on a train line, I live on a tram route, so I don't even get the subsidy.

Previously? The ability to take my dog to work, a free Christmas tree, and wholesale priced venison.

BillyAndTheSillies · 01/10/2018 21:46

Current perk? Free parking and a tassimo machine.

Old job - days off for birthday, moving home and getting married. Free bar. Full time free use of a barista. Breakfast provided (used to be lunch). The first year I worked there our Christmas party was in Las Vegas. All expenses paid 4 day trip.

squeaver · 01/10/2018 21:49

I once had to fly to New York for work and the client insisted we use Concorde. Flew back business class and got upgraded to first.

Best work trip ever.

squeaver · 01/10/2018 21:50

These days, I work from home and my only perk is the biscuits in my own biscuit tin.

WitcheryNights · 01/10/2018 21:50

6 weeks paid holiday in top of bank holidays.
8 months full maternity pay.
Discounted holidays through Virgin.
Free health insurance and dental.
Company car and fuel paid for.
30 years ago they used to give you a deposit to buy a house and paid for your lunches as you were field based.
Also had final salary pensions which they got rid of a couple of years ago but I believe some are still lurking as there are plenty of oldies hanging around for retirement to benefit from it!

zebrarobot · 01/10/2018 21:53

Ours is pretty good. We get free parking, tea, coffee, subsidised canteen, summer and christmas nights out all paid for including drinks tokens, free tv package and internet, enhanced maternity and paternity pay, 2 paid family days per year, 12 weeks sick pay & an extra day of annual leave for each year you work with the company. Probably more but cant think of any just now.

DropZoneOne · 01/10/2018 21:53

1 free business class flight for me and my family, anywhere on the network, just have to pay the taxes. This year we all went to LA for £500. DD finally agrees that me working is a Good Thing.

OnGoldenPond · 01/10/2018 21:54

The fancy party with foreign flights etc may well not have cost a previous poster a penny in tax if her employer had agreed to pay employees tax liabilities for it through a PAYE settlement agreement. This is an agreement that the company will pay any benefit in kind tax payable by staff on entertaining over the £150 limit.

A previous employer did this as the directors liked to throw lavish Christmas parties and paid for a hotel room for everyone and didn't want staff worrying about the tax bill.

AlexaAmbidextra · 02/10/2018 21:53

Working for a local charity with absolutely no perks. A few years ago the Trustees decided to hold a BBQ as a thank you to all staff. They then sent round a list of food required asking us all to bring some. 😲

Satsumaeater · 03/10/2018 12:23

Current job - only salary and compulsory pension. But we do have free tea/coffee/soft drinks in the office and the odd team lunch paid for.

In my previous job there was a lot more in the way of benefits like private healthcare but any lunches were self-funded. In a way I prefer my current job.

Someone mentioned the AA and Centrica above. I worked for British Gas a very long time ago and we didn't get free tea or coffee. And there were only vending machines at the time. When the canteen was closed, no decent tea/coffee. It always annoyed me. They reckoned they saved £3 million a year by not offering free drinks to staff.

Spinner2018g · 03/10/2018 14:53

Currently receive free tea, coffee, milk, juice. When I worked for other companies in the past I've received free fresh fruit, free day holiday once per year, reduced price shares, free meal per shift worked, Easter egg, chocolate advent calendar, Christmas party with free accommodation, free training courses, granted request for unpaid leave, nominated for awards that supplied shopping vouchers. I've been quite lucky !

bonnyblithe · 03/10/2018 15:07

I get six months of full maternity pay (haven't been lucky enough to use that one yet) and really generous holiday allowance. I do a fair bit of international travel and usually manage to wangle a nice hotel. We also get some corporate discounts with retailers but none that are hugely attractive. Plus the usual salary sacrifice for bikes, childcare etc.

Dogegg33 · 03/10/2018 15:11

Free flu jab Confused

LisaSimpsonsbff · 03/10/2018 15:20

In my old job I thought we got free tea, coffee and milk. After two years I found out they were being bought by staff on a rota and I was basically being a complete dick by using them but not taking part in the rota - no one ever told me! Blush

I'm currently three months into my five fully paid months of maternity leave, so that's definitely the perk I'm most pleased with at the moment!

Noboozeforme · 03/10/2018 15:54

8% company pension match

Agile working (work where you like)
Laptop
Free fruit (fresh every day)
