City lawyer with toddlers can't cope

I work FT at a city firm and have two dd 1 and 3. Have a full time daily nanny but still can't cope. Work all day, come home and put kids to bed and work all evening to make billable target or have to go to client functions. So stressed out that on weekend just want to sit in garden with kids and do nothing. Can't sleep, can't talk to anyone. How do people manage?

hehehehehe
I can't believe you are not enjoying this, bundle.
Oh look I've just dropped off myself, zzzzzzz.

Xenia, I agree there are some double standards on here. Some SAHMs are quite anti childcare until there is a husband's work freebie to Cannes for 5 days! I am very consistent as I am even a control freak about babysitters. Since I had my baby daughter 18 months ago my partner and I have been out together only 4 times in the evening. 3 times my sister came and babysat and more recently, a very good friend who has two children of her own came to babysit. We tend to go out during the day/for lunch and take children in whatever combination with us.

Caroline1852 · 14/06/2007 17:34

I should add that I am not complaining. I choose these limitations on my social life.

What is PFB? Will then be able to let you know if I am thinking it?

Caroline1852 · 14/06/2007 17:41

Do you mean me?

Eleusis · 14/06/2007 17:42

I was actually trying to think of something better than peanut f*ing butter.

kerala · 14/06/2007 17:48

Also Xenia the 5 children thing - whats your view on the environmentalist stand point that there are too many people in the world so everyone should have 2 and no more?!

Caroline1852 · 14/06/2007 17:55

Threads of this ilk tend to go pretty pear shaped because people have a tendency to get offended by others making differing lifestyle choices, and talking about those choices positively. I think each group has much to learn from the other. I doubt we are all 100% pro working or 100% pro staying at home, but rather dotted up and down the graph, and changing position on the graph according to how things are working out. Crap day = Is this best way to be managing things? Good day = I made the right choice/decision.

ComeOVeneer · 14/06/2007 18:34

"people have a tendency to get offended by others making differing lifestyle choices, and talking about those choices positively"

I don't think that is the case at all. They have a tendency to get offended when those who have made differing lifestyle choices, critise the choices they have made.

Eleusis · 14/06/2007 18:36

Well, on that basis, kerala, China and India better buck up their contributions to cleaning the world up. And the US should relax their efforts. This is obviously a bad idea.

belgo · 14/06/2007 18:40

keral - ifrom an environmentalist ppoint of view - it would be far more sensible for some people to have five children, and some none at all, rather then everyone being allowed just two children.

Anna8888

Are you suggesting that I as a Nanny am not an intelligent adult whom is able to talk to a child for many hours per day??????

bundle · 14/06/2007 19:26
ScottishThistle · 14/06/2007 19:29

Anna8888, I am sure you're talking about 'au-pairs' not 'nannies'...Two very different things!

bundle · 14/06/2007 19:29

god knows what she's talking about scottishthistle

ScottishThistle · 14/06/2007 19:33

Bundle, don't scarper...I'm intelligent & I also have a sense of humour!

I don't often get angry but I'm furious re that statement to be honest!

I have 15yrs experience with under 5's & 4 excellent references in which my employers have remarked on my qualities as a teacher!

I do wish people would think before they spout such offensive drivvle!

bundle · 14/06/2007 19:37

sorry thistle i have to go

tbh i can tell straight away you're better company

I'd be furious too, especially if I was one of the algerian women who works hard every day only to be put down by a woman who's more bothered about language acquisition than, well, childhood being a bit frivolous and fun.

I work (voluntarily) with a group of fantastic women at my dd2's nursery and I totally respect the skills they have. like you, they've worked hard and regard their job as a proper career. which is it. and a bloody important one at that. keep up the good work

francagoestohollywood · 14/06/2007 19:42

today dd brushed two donkeys at nursery.

ScottishThistle · 14/06/2007 19:43

Thanks bundle I'll keep up the good work because I love it, love hearing about my ex-charges & how fantastic they're doing at school!

I'd like to think I played a big part in their academic prowess, since I talk/teach/have fun with them all day!

ScottishThistle · 14/06/2007 20:05

Caroline1852, are you serious?

I'm a Nanny, I chose to be a Nanny because I love children (imagine someone choosing a career path because they enjoy it) not because I'm thick & couldn't do anything else!...I have 'O' levels & highers for what it's worth!

Just for the record, I'd never leave my children with a person like you!
