Getting out of retail

Has anyone had any success in getting out of 10+ year retail career progressing to management? Had a few knock backs on office job applications and starting to feel slightly deflated

I worked in retail for 8 years up to store management and left to go work in civil service level 2. I earnt more at entry level than i did as a store manager!
