I've got an interview coming up for Civil Service post with DWP; can anyone advise, I'm guessing it will be competency based? Any tips welcomed 😀

I'm an EO, my interview was almost 3 years ago. Yes, it was competency based, but only to expand on the examples already provided in the initial application (Leading a Team and Providing a Quality Service). I'm unsure (as I haven't needed to follow the recruitment process) if the process has changed. Something's niggling me that it may be more than two competencies discussed?

Hopefully, someone who has been recently recruited may be along Smile Good luck

Thanks Stop, that’s useful information, I’m an ex-Civil Servant trying to return but from a different department, so had quite a few competency based interviews - keep your fingers crossed for me 😃

Interview was very competency based, the interviewers didn't know what role I was in or had seen my application form; waiting to hear outcome and hoping it's good news 😀

Didn't get the job unfortunately, my competency interview feedback was 6, 4, 4, 3 - just wasn't meant to be!

Make sure you get specific descriptions of your competency outcomes, not just their ratings. The one thing the public sector is good at is providing well documented and reasoned feedback, which can be good to finesse and fine tune your approach to the competency interview.

More often than not, it's about the technique and not necessarily about actual ability (which is a bit ironic, but it's all about ticking the right boxes).
