Flexible working request before statutory 26weeks

Just wondering if anyone has asked for flexible working before working for the company for the required 26week?
New job in the NHS and I'm thinking of asking my manager if I can work 4 days rather than 5.
Has anyone asked informally before and it been given? Thanks

There is no harm in asking.

My previous organisation did have the default 26 weeks service in the policy, but would accept requests before this date.
