i have been back at work for 8 weeks and am already on my third lot of time off. SInce starting nursery, dd has had conjunctivitis, bronchiolitis, croup and now d and v as well as a permanent cold and cough. Both my and dh's work have been very understanding of the time off we have had to take but they must be getting so pissed off. Also, it's depressing to think we are paying £250 a week for her nursery when she seem to never be there!

sorry, just needed to get this out of my system and to hear from someone that it will get better!!

It will. She's probably picking up everything going because she's mixing with lots of other children for the first time. She'll gradually build up a resistance.

You may find that as she goes through the first years of school, that she gets a cold during the first weeks of the autumn term - again because of having been isolated for 6 weeks - but she'll get over them quickly.

And then suddenly, she'll be leaving home...

Enjoy

It will get better - the advice that I had from my GP when DS was going through this was to just try and tell yourself that if she wasn't going through it now she would be doing it when she started playschool / school - so it is not due to you going back to work - SAHMs just hit this phase with their DC a bit later.

had this too, it's hard and you get quite a lot of disbelief at work in my experience!
It has settled down a bit though, am just waiting for next episode.

thanks - I guess i know deep down it will; i've just found it so hard to go back anyway and then the fact that i've been in and out has meant i've found it really hard to settle in. It doesnt probably help that most of my other baby friends dcs go to childminders or relatives so are not at the same levels of bug exposure as nursery - they just dont seem to sympathise that my dd is always ill!!
i also have to remind myself that, as a teacher, i always get ill after the holidays - and since i've gone back after maternity leave, i've had a permanent cold too! I guess i'm bringing my fair share of bugs home too.

yup, same thing happened to me - or else, I caught everything that dd got . Now that she's older, we seem to manage not to share so many bugs .. but I've had to wait 15 years

Olivo - deffo gets better. DD started nursery in Feb and has everything since starting there. She has not had anything for about 3 weeks though so maybe the worst is over!

thanks - having been off since tues with dd and d and v, i've now got it myself so trying to look after her while i feel crap myself - grrrr! only six weeks till the holidays- if we can just make it through then she'll be in the fresh air for 7 weeks!! oh and then to a new nursery and a new set of bugs
