Hello there,

I’m looking for a little advice! I recently found out I’m going to be made redudent at the end of September and I’m also 14 weeks pregnant. I don’t qualify for SMP through my work but I can claim maternity allowance through job seekers plus around about November time. I am also aware I may be able to claim a sure start grant of £500 but I believe I need to be on a benefit to claim this, maybe job seekers? I’m just confused about what to do next, do I claim job seekers so I can claim the sure start grant? but in November I can claim my maternity allowance, which means I the have to stop claiming job seekers, which then means I can’t claim the grant, which you cannot claim until 11 weeks before due date?? I’ve tried contacting job seekers with not much help nothing links so I can get answers about one think like maternity allowance but not how they link or how one claim effects another? Any advice gratefully received!

Is your employer aware you are pregnant? They have to thread very carefully.
Sorry can't help re benefits

They are aware now but weren’t when they announced the redundancies. The only jobs available were a relocation so I’ve opted for voluntary redundancy.

Hi. Wonder if anyone can help me, I have been in my new job 4 weeks, and just found out I’m pregnant (1st child) it is now known that our company has been taken over and were all going to lose our jobs 🙁🙁 I am worried sick thinking what help I’m even going to get knowing I wasn’t even entitled to maternity pay anyway 😣😣🤦‍♀️ I was going to ask if I could work from home but now that won’t be the case!! Any advice would greatly help! Thanks
