Can this company refuse to pay me?

I used to work for a company some years ago, and things are very tight this summer so I agreed to pick up some shifts as I am off in August (my main job is in education.) Pay should be weekly, on Friday.

After three days work, I had an emergency as my child was unwell. I took that day off.

Two days later my car broke down (the job is car based.) They were pretty angry.

I didn’t get a payslip (normally you get a payslip on Wednesday and paid Friday.) I queried this and was told I had to return my uniform first. I did so and asked about money and was told it would be sorted.

I feel like I’m not going to get paid - does anyone know what I can do?

They must pay you at least minimum wage for the work you have done.

As per ACAS, above, you must take every effort to resolve it but can then take to employment tribunal. Make sure you keep any texts or emails asking you to work. Tribunal process must be started within 3 months.
