Company maternity pay

Hello,

Just in need of some advice! I returned to full time work in June, but due to the intense stress and pressure of the job (and looking after two under two), I’ve had to resign. In my contract it states if I resign within a year I have to pay back the company maternity pay - £6,084 😱. I was ready to do this, but I then enquiried about whether I could redeem the tax back I had paid on this money. My payroll then readjusted the figure to £5,419 based on deducting the tax and NI. Does anyone know if this figure looks correct? I’m distrustful of the company, as had I not asked they would have quite happily taken the full £6,084.

This will be quite complicated to work out. In your shoes I'd ask the relevant person (finance or payroll?) to walk you through the calculation and you can ask questions and check things off as you go. When you get your P60 it will show your total gross and net pay and you can check with Hmrc that the tax deduction is correct.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. :) I shall wait for my P60.
