How to create a LinkedIn profile when unemployed

I've been unemployed for the last 7 months. I've been trying for the past hour to create a LinkedIn profile but am finding it an absolute nightmare. It just seems totally user-unfriendly. I am trying to a) create an introduction, similar to a personal profile on a CV, as I have seen that others have done this on LinkedIn, and b) list at the top of my experience that I am unemployed and actively looking for employment. I am almost tearing my hair out as I cannot seem to manage this. Can anyone help me please or point me in the right direction for help? Thank you.

I think the usual phrase is "looking for opportunities in x".

thank you for the advice, I'm just really struggling with using LinkedIn, I thought I was ok IT-wise, but creating a profile on LinkedIn really has left me tearing my hair out!

You will find some tutorials on You Tube to help you get started.

If it’s any consolation I loath LinkedIn with a passion. It’s clunky, unintuative and ugly!

I’m only on there because a former manager insisted we all have a profile on it.

On the plus side it is good for getting you noticed by recruiters. Just be wary of them though. Check through other channels that they are genuine people before sending your CV / personal details. (E.g. ringing the agency they claim to represent and checking they really do work there and what their work email address is).

It's not just you!

Thank you all for your advice, this has really helped. It really is a dreadful site, so difficult to use. I shall look at some tutorials on YouTube.

Please persevere though - it can be a good way to get opportunities - worth the short term pain IMO.
