Job dilemma, opinions please!

Hi, I'm having a dilemma about a job I've been offered and keep changing my mind as to what on earth to do. Opinions would be very gratefully received!

I've been offered a job which is really badly paid but it might give me the experience I need to change to something much better in 6/12 months (the job description doesn't match what I was told at interview and they won't change it). Because it's so badly paid I'll have to supplement my income in order to survive (they've agreed to this). There's no prospect of the salary going up enough to be able to live on it for at least 18 months. I'm also not entirely happy with the contractual notice period but they won't negotiate.

Do I take it and try to move as soon as possible once I've got the experience I need (assuming I do actually get relevant experience)? Do I turn it down and keep looking for the right job (which I'm struggling to get because I don't have experience in that particular field, but I may not actually get it in this job anyway)? Or do I accept it and keep looking in the hope that I'll get something better before I actually start?

Are you working at the moment? I always find its easier to get another job when you are actually in a job, I don't agree with it but thats how it seems. When you say badly paid is the job actually paying the correct pay ie minimum wage or national wage if you are over 25 ? In my experience i've taken badly paid jobs in the past as I needed the money and any job is better than no job, and just gained experience and then moved on. Most importantly would you enjoy doing this job ? As 6 months can be an awfully long time in a job you don't like (been there got the t-shirt, hat and matching bag !!!)

Hi @Smurfie12 I won't be working after next week as I'm relocating, although I will be consulting part time instead. It is above NMW but isn't enough to pay my bills.

I think I'd enjoy it, as you say 6 months is a very long time to be in a job you don't like!

Are they on glassdoor.com, might be useful to read others reviews of working for them. It doesn’t sound like they have impressed you much.

@EvaHarknessRose No they're not, probably too small. I feel like I'm caught between a rock and a hard place.
