Should I pay voluntary class2 NIC whilst receiving child benefit?

I’m completing my first self assessment and I’m not sure if it’s better for me to pay voluntary NIC right now as I get Child benefit so will already have no gaps in my contributions. Can anyone explain if there is a benefit to paying more in voluntary contributions? I’m not due to retire until 2054. (Will state pension even exist then?)

I did, before I realised about child benefit. It made no difference to my record - it was just recorded as a ‘complete’ year.

Thanks for replying maybedoctor, I decided not to in the end for exactly the reason you have stated. There doesn’t seem to be any benefit.
