STRUGGLING TO FIND APPRENTICESHIP OPPS FOR POST-SECONDARY!!!

Really struggling to find apprenticeship opportunities that aren't the usual bricklaying/hair and beauty which is not what DS (17) wants to go into. School are useless and pushing for uni which I think is too expensive and DS wants to get straight into work. If a degree was offered as part of the apprenticeship I'm sure he'd take it but to just go to uni is not part of his plan.

Starting to panic now help!!!

Is this for post A-levels?
What sort of A levels and what are his interests?
e.g Accountancy takes people post-A levels?

Have you looked on the government apprenticeships website?

Have looked there a lot of it is engineering etc and based in places like London/middle of nowhere, we are in Liverpool and he does not drive so needs to be accessible. His interests are more creative/digital i.e design/web development & unpaid is not an option

I've got the same problem with my 15 year old son. He's really into design too and we've exhausted all our options as his school have really been useless because he's quite academic and are pushing him into the university route too which I know isn't a bad thing!
If you're on twitter I saw an event that's being held in Shop Direct on Monday 30th July and it's showcasing different apprenticeship opportunities in Liverpool!

What does he want to do? Accountancy firms, insurance companies, councils all take on apprentices post A level for example.

Theres a government apprenticeship website. If he applied for the better paid ones and was successful he could move and rent somewhere. Spare roomwebsite is good as most are a room with bills included and a shorter contract. Like uni but far more independent

OP there are apprentice opportunities like that out there, I’m looking to hire one myself (digital/web design/social media etc). We’re on the outskirts of London so it’s no good for you but they are out there, keep looking.

Has your son thought about other options? I’ve seen a post on Facebook about The F Factor which looks like it could be good for your son and I’m going to get mine involved. I was also going to suggest government as they have an IT/technology apprenticeship.

I know how you feel I have two sons to try and find apprenticeships for! One is doing GCSE's and one is doing A levels. It is not easy and you really have to do a lot of work to apply for them. They only want the best people and as they probably have 100's of people applying they can pick and choose I'm sure. I hope you son has more get up and go and initiative than mine have!
