Hi,
I'm currently a childminder and frankly, I need my house back.
Before minding, I worked in PA / Secretary / Senior Administrator / Office Manager type roles. I don't particularly want the commute that goes with working in a big city (Yorkshire based) but enjoyed the work. I thought perhaps some freelance transcription and VPA type work might work well with my previous skill set.
I'm building my typing speed and accuracy back up (its currently at 70 WPM, just needs a bit more practice to bring up to scratch accuracy and speed consistency), brushing up on my shorthand and diary management type skills. I've done the booking travel, organising meetings, conferences and all the general type work that goes with the role.
I guess, what I'm asking is:
Is there still a demand for home based freelance support?
Are there any agencies you would recommend to get started?
I'm obviously happy to buy the foot pedal and audio software and upgrade my PC etc but before I take the leap I want to know if the work is out there?
Ideally I'd like to slowly run down the childminding business and build up a admin based business along side it a couple of days / evenings per week, do you think this is realistic?
Sorry for the long post, I'm at the initial sounding out stage! And thank you for any advice offered.
