Can you study whilst on maternity leave?

I was just wondering if anybody knew as I can't find any clear guidelines.

Whilst receiving SMP, am I able to enrol onto a full time course or would I need to resign from my role first?

@jenedmo My course would be an access to higher education course and would be through the open university or through a local college- undecided yet. My role is a full time role but will be part time on my return to work. Thank you!
