how you do work it when you/your job share partner's days off fall on a bank holiday?? I currently job share and my days off fall at the end of the week, it somehow seems unfair that the person I job share with gets the bank holidays off and then time off in lieu of this

Everyone I've ever known have pro-rata'ed it.

So you would be entitled to have that % of time off.

Any employer worth their salt should have done that calculation and should be aware of the issue.

dissle · 27/05/2007 16:35

We take it in turns, so she works one and i am off then i work the next one for her. That way it is fairer.
I work the end of the week, she works the begining. We will work out between us so that she doesnt have to work every one.
Sorry thats not what you are asking is it...we have to work bank holidays so we are the opposite to you.
Not helpful at all..sorry

Yes, agree with TLV that it should be pro-rated. I work 3 days a week and accordingly get 60% of the bank holidays. My jobsharer (who works the end of the week) gets 40% of them as extra holiday leave.

The downside is that when I run out of bank holidays I don't get paid for the ones that fall on "my" days - or else I have to use regular holiday allowance to cover them.

So to answer your question, she shouldn't get time off in lieu of EVERY bank holiday, but she should get time off in lieu of 40% of them.

thank you for the replies I shall be contacting the hr dept in the next week to query and I agree that I should be getting a % of the time off

When I job shared I worked the beginning of the week. They calculated how much the other person was "missing out" because I got extra hols and increased her pay accordingly. They took advice from ACAS on how to work it out.

I job share and our bank holidays are split equally - ie she gets half of them and I get my half tagged on my holiday entitlement.
