Employer cutting hours after maternity leave

Hey,
Just after some advice. So because of a downfall in business my employer has cut my hours by 9 hours a week! I’m
Currently on maternity leave I’m due back soon. Can they do this? What about maternity rights? Thing is I haven’t got a contract, never signed anything so don’t know if I have a leg to stand on? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks x

If you've been working the same hours consistently and regularly then those will be your contractual hours even if you don't have a written contract specifying that.

If they've cut your hours because you are on maternity leave that would be unlawful discrimination. If they've cut everyone's hours in the same way because of a downturn in business that's slightly different, although they should still consult and give proper business reasons.

So basically I’ve had mine cut the most! Losing a whopping £300 a month!
