Two jobs - holiday entitlement.

Well I've gone from the sublime to the ridiculous and am now looking at working 2 jobs.

Nothing too problematic, it just occurred to me to wonder whether I get the legal holiday entitlement from both jobs separately or whether it gets merged.

Hope that makes sense!

I assume both jobs are part-time? You get a pro-rata'd holiday allowance from each job based on the number of hours you do in each. So if for example you did 2.5 days a week in one and 2.5 in the other, you would get half your statutory holiday allowance from each job.... neither employer is obliged to consult with the other about how/when you take your holiday in any way.

Hope that helps!

Correct. You get the pro rated entitlement in each role.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 26/06/2018 13:18

It will also depend on your entitlement from each job. Some give the statutory minimum and others are more generous. Each job is completely separate. Not sure why you’d think anything else tbh.

Yo might have some logistical problems i getting holidays off for a week or more as one place may not allow you to have the same week off that the other does so bear it in mind.

lardymclardy · 26/06/2018 13:40

Thanks all, yes both would be part time and pro rata. Where I am working at the moment, I get my full 22 days plus bank holiday, however we work it in hours so that a day to me is 3.2 hours.

Not sure why you’d think anything else tbh.

Apologies if you found it an ignorant comment, we're not all as blessed with employment law knowledge as you clearly are.

So in effect I could take a weeks holiday from one job - a week being 16 hours, and go and work 16 hours at my other job? It just sounds like a lot to me.

I'm only thinking this through as it is the summer holidays coming up and thinking about childcare (Although I would still need childcare if working my 1st job - that's me talking to myself :D )

Yes, if you wanted you could take a week's/16 hours holiday from Job A and still work your 16 hours in Job B if you wanted, and that would be fine. But if you wanted to go away for the week and not work in either job you need to take 16 hours holiday from both Job A and Job B (so 32 hours holiday total).

As bumbling says, you might need to be super-organised about booking your leave for holidays with both employers, to make sure you can get holiday from both jobs at the same time when you need it!

Thanks maxelly, no holidays planned but its good to know I can chop and change. I've just had a telephone interview that went really well, face to face on Thurs so... fingers crossed!

Thanks all.

I used to work two jobs until recently and it was a bit of a nightmare trying to get a complete week off from both of them.

lardymclardy · 26/06/2018 21:46

Thanks @Babyroobs - I've no money for a holiday so am not thinking in weekly terms at the moment. I was thinking about this school hols and juggling. I'm probably getting ahead of myself anyway.
