Longer Notice Period

I have recently been offered a new job. Despite having 18 years service with my current employer I only have to provide one months notice. I have two weeks annual leave booked at the beginning of August and would ideally like my notice to end at the end of this annual leave. If I only give my employer a months notice half of it will be taken up with my annual leave. Am I able to give them 6 weeks notice thus giving them time to make alternative arrangements to cover my role or will I be expected to give one month only?

Nothing wrong with you giving more notice than the minimum required. Just be clear that's what you are doing and specify what your last date of employment will be.
