Leaving job

I have been offered And accepted a new job within the NHS. I have given my notice which ends today but haven’t been given a date when I can actually leave my current job. My new line manager has emailed my current manager requesting a release date but hasn’t been given an answer. Any advice??

I have always given my employer my final date of work in my resignation letter. Does it work differently for the NHS?

I did put the date in my resignation letter. I have spoken to HR , they could not give me any advice. I’m annoyed because if I was moving to a job in a different NHS trust or a private employer I would be leaving today, but because I’m only moving departments it seems I don’t have any rights 😐

I work for the NHS. Normally you state your last working day in your resignation letter.
Are you resigning one post and taking up another or are you being transferred internally?

It isn't just the NHS, it's a pretty universal protocol, even if it's an internal transfer to ensure it's clear and agreed with all parties when your final day is in the current post and when you take up the new position. Was it not agreed even if verbally at the time of your announced move between you, your new dept and current one.

Are you saying it's been left up in the air for your entire notice period?

It's normal practice in the NHS for internal transfers for the managers to discuss and agree upon a release date.

Just an update... still haven’t been given a date to start my new job. I have asked my current manager several times. First I was told they would know more when a colleague returned from sick leave. When I asked again I was told that they still couldn’t give me a date. Mentioned waiting for a new starter to start in our department. This could be some time as the person starting will have to go through all the employment checks, give notice, get released etc etc .
