Hi all :) Have been offered a new role in my dream job, unfortunately though its only fixed term and 30hrs instead of 37.5hrs. The role that I interviewed with went to someone else, they offered me their second role and i really dont know what to do. I think the main worry I have is that it was already going to be a large pay cut from my previous role, and I was ok with it when it was full time, and permanent, but now I really dont know what to do? Hmm

Have you done the sums to know if you could manage at all on what is offered?

Negotiate. Ask for more than your absolute minimum. If they won't offer what you can afford to work for, then don't accept. Are there other areas for negotiation, such as more leave, flexible working, subsidised travel?

What are the option's for training, future promotion and so on? Would there be any chance of moving into the other role in a year or two?

It didn’t work out unfortunately, they wouldn’t even match the level of band I should be on so it made the decision easier in the end. It was a shame though as I really wanted the role (school nurse)

I'd just fire an actualpiece of paper letter off thanking them for offering the secondary job, and say you couldn't feasibly afford it but could they keep your details on file should the main job come available in the future.

It's not unheard of for people to start a job & hate it then leave straight away!
