Flexible working declined- another manager is now part time

I returned to work in 2015 and was refused flexible working to go part time (3days). I had to step down my position from manager to supervisor. Now in 2018 someone who took my position has taken a new role along side the manager role, but he will only be a manager 3 days a week. I am currently in the process of raising a grievance against this being allowed, I have asked for an explanation as to how this is different from me asking to go part time. Anyone had anything similar or have any thoughts on this?

I suspect you'll be told that this post is a new role, alongside the manager, and so different from the manager role you had to stand down from. Also, it would be different if this new role was advertised as FT, and he's asked to only work 3 days a week, or whether it was advertised as a part time post from the off.

Can you be vague enough to explain how this 3 day post is different from your old manager post, without being identifiable?

Basically this new role has been advertised in the company to everyone. It was advertised as 2x 7 hour shift a week. Therefore 2 of the manager role shifts will be replaced with this role. I was given numerous examples as to why going part time wouldn’t work, these examples still stand and are very much relatable to this situation too. I’ve got a meeting to voice my concerns so I’ll see how it goes.

On the face of it you have a case, but they'll probably say that the business needs have changed over the long time difference.

Yeah I think so too, but I’ll give it a go. Thanks
