its brilliant that i'm pg but am worried i'm going to end up feeling like I just justify myself to manager (work in engineering so only woman on team so they are not used to maternity leave let alone this, they'll prob be negative )

anyone been there? no idea when to tell them, only been back at work 3 weeks, think i was about 8 weeks pg when can back...

I was when I went back to work and tbh they were pretty annoyed about it, particularly as I had literally just signed the contracts etc, and that meant they would have to pay my next round of maternity pay. But, in the end, it was fine, although I probably worked four times as hard to prove myself (for the six months I actually worked) and ended up leaving literally days before ds was born.

I never went back, and if I think about it, I am annoyed that I am only remembered as the person who just had lots of babies (well two), rather than the fact I had been there five years and brought in lots of lovely well paid business, but I suppose that's life.

I had worked at my place 2 years then fell preg and left for Mat leave in the December, baby in the January, fell pregnant again in the April so I was 3 months pregnant when i went back to work in June! Happy days....... back on Maternity leave in the December.
No one was anything other than pleased to my face though am sure they thought "what a pain" in Personnel!

when did you tell them you were pg again? I'm having a dilema but am convinced I'll start to show soon anyway

I would just like to say congrats!!! I have never been in this situation so cant advise but being preggers is wonderful. If work get annoyed tell them to stick it! I would!

insywinsyspider · 17/05/2007 08:12

would love to tell them to stick it but i get really scared by our morgage repayments!
am so happy to be pg again tho - took us 12 mo to get there with ds so we just thought we'd see what would happen this time - we tempted fate because if I'd got pg in May not April I know i'd be ok on maternity pay cause I'd have 26 weeks cont service before 15th wk EDD.... made a confidential app with HR today, am really nervous

he,he. Probably not my best advise but we can dream!
Cant you fib? Tell work that you got pg early may? I cant remember how it works now, does the doc send them a letter with dates on or just that you are pg?

crazylazydaisy · 17/05/2007 08:35

I told them at about 5 months, I could hide it till then as was still biggish from last baby! My line manager knew I had wanted another one quickly anyway so wasnt surprised. Just tried to make myself invaluable until i left again and not be just known as the one with all those kids Let us know how meeting goes - oh and congratulations by the way xx

insywinsyspider · 17/05/2007 08:35

you have to give them your MAT1B form which mw puts EDD on - taken from scan, last period was 9th March but i didn't ovulate till 1st April (returned to work 30th April) but dating wise think i'm stuffed on getting them to fiddle it!
think I'll feel better after chat to HR even if all bad money wise at least we can plan ahead.....

Just quickly - I think you are fine on the 26 weeks business, because whilst you have been on the first lot of maternity leave, you are still employed by them and therefore will have the 26 wks continuous service automatically (whether you were working for them or working for your dc!). I seem to remember checking this when I got pregnant second time round, and I am SURE (well fairly) this is the case.

Hope your meeting with HR went well.

lou031205 · 18/05/2007 21:48

Totally agree - you are getting confused between attendance and employment.

When you were on mat leave, you were still EMPLOYED even though you weren't working. Therefore, you definitely have been employed for more than 26 weeks, so doesn't matter when you fell pregnant this time.

Don't forget, you don't have to tell them until you are ready, as long as you tell them when you are 25 weeks.

But, they can't do a risk assessment or accomodate your pregnancy needs if you don't tell them, so it depends on whether you need adjustments to your work, etc.

I had DS1 in the feb and then when i went back to work in the sept I was already pg with DS2 (who was due following April) I could have taken 6 months paid, 6 months unpaid and then taken 6 months paid again WITHOUT GOING BACK to work from one mat leave to the next. The only stipulation was that if I had done that I wouldn't have been able to have taken a 2nd 6 months of unpaid.

insywinsyspider · 20/05/2007 21:11

hello

well lady from HR went home sick on Thursday so I never had the meeting just waiting for her to reshedule.... really frustrating as we just want to be able to plan our finances

i spoke to my best friend whos a manager and decided not to tell anyone at work for a while because the fact I've only just returned will over shadow the event, my manager only needs a month to backfill my position anyway...

lou - i did a 'new and expectant mothers' risk ass when I returned to work so I know everything is ok as they'll just change the title when I tell them I'm pg

thanks for all advice sounds like I'm ok for SMP its just the companies top up pay that I'll have to check - I guess I'm worried if its their internal policy then they'll be looking for any loop hole to get out of it

insywinsyspider · 22/05/2007 22:20

got my first scan next week but that news really does take the pressure off! can't wait to offically tell the family but think I'll wait a while yet to tell work (although I'm starting to show already!)
