I am currently on maternity leave and have just discovered I am pregnant again. If all goes well the due date in 11th January 2019. I am due to return to work on 17th July 2018.

I am trying to work out if I can claim SMP for my second baby. I have been employed continuously for over 7 years. I earn roughly £2000 a month. I am paid monthly - last working day.

I have done some calculations around qualifying week and get this to be 23rd September 2018. I have then considered my two pay packets prior to this date which will be end of August and end of July. The August payment will be a full payment however the July payment will be from the 17th only (I will still be on unpaid mat leave for the first half of the month). Will the fact that I earn nothing for this part of July have an impact on my eligibility for SMP?

Also there is a possibility that I will be made redundant perhaps October time. As I understand it I will still receive the full amount of SMP (depending on the answer from above). If I take my Mat leave from 21st October 2018 and my employers maternity pay is already in payment when I am made redundant is there an obligation for the employer to continue to pay this money or this that section of the maternity pay end with my redundancy?

You should still qualify for SMP if your earnings for July/August are over £113 pw average. (Which sounds like they will be if returning f/t)

And yes, if you are made redundant after qualifying week in September then you must be paid the full SMP.
