"Dear Boss, this is to inform you that I am tendering my resignation today, (xdate). I expect my last day to be (ydate) (or insert appropriate to your mat leave).

Thank you for your support and all the best for the future,

Nomi"

Very simple and straightforward. If at all possible, though, you should arrange a phone call and resign verbally, then follow up with the letter. Resigning by letter is a bit abrupt and you may need this boss for a future reference.

Thanks for help!

@QueenAravisOfArchenland I have already done this, spoke to my boss before applying for the other job and explained the change in circumstances that had led me to looking for other jobs so this is just the formal bit!
